The vésuvianite , or idocrase is a Minéral of the family of the Sorosilicate S, double Silicate of Alumine and Calcium of formula Ca10 (Mg, Fe) 2Al4 (SiO4) 5 (Si2O7) 2 (OH, F) 4. Its name comes from the Vesuvius, a volcano Italy N. It crystallizes in the quadratic system, and its hardness Mohs is of 6,5.
A variety of vésuvianite, the cyprine is a Precious stone of blue color, contestable with much difficulty. It is sold under the name of gems of the Vesuvius, after being cut with Naples and Turin.
Paragenesis
The vésuvianite is a common mineral of the metamorphic Calcaire S and Dolomie S, associated with Grenat S, Diopside, Wollastonite. It is also visible in the nephelinic Syénite S and in veins of the ultrabasic rocks.
Layer
Beautiful specimens were found with Asbestos with the Quebec and close to Saint-Vincent in the Val of Aoste in Italy.There exists also a site in Belgium named " cave of Holy Croix" in the entity of Huccorgne.
