Véliocasses
The Véliocasses are a Gallic people group of the Armorican people. They remained in the Vexin, to which they gave the name. Their chief town was Rotomagus - today Rouen.
They took part in the rising of 56 before Jesus-Christ against César, which for this reason quoted in her Guerre of Gaules .
mention Véliocasses with the people of the south Belgium and they take part in the coalition which faces the Romans in 57 av JC. Véliocasses appear in the army united in height of 10.000 men. In 52 before JC, they take part in general rising by providing 3.000 men to the army of help to [[Vercingetorix]; they are found the following year at the sides of the Bellovaques within the framework of an ultimate rebellion.
Many coins to them are allotted, in particular, certain parts struck in the name of SUTICOS and others, RATUMACOS. In this last case, it could be a question of the evocation (at one time contemporary or close to the war of Gaules) of the town of Rotomagus which will become the place chief of the civitas véliocasses at the time imperial. For as much, it is with Vernon in the the Eure that was excavated and discovered a Oppidum with monumental entry of first importance.
The territory of Véliocasses follows the course of the the Seine since the confluence with the Oise and extends on the plate from the Vexin on Right Bank; the Western and Southern limits are rather difficult to determine.
