Hydrology
Vègre is a rather abundant river in the context of the basin of the Sarthe, and also rather irregular, like almost all the rivers of the catchment area of the Sarthe. Its flow was observed over one 28 years period (1980-2007), with Asnières-on-Vègre, locality of the department of the the Sarthe located in the vicinity immediate of its confluence with the the Sarthe. The catchment area of the river is there of 401 km ² (either its almost totality).
The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Asnières-on-Vègre is of 3,17 m ³ a second.
Vègre presents seasonal fluctuations of flow marked enough, like very often in the basin of the Loire, with high waters of winter carrying the average monthly flow on a level located between 4,86 and 7,08 m ³ a second, from December to March included (with a maximum very Net in January). As of the end of March, the flow drops gradually until the period of low waters of summer which takes place of at the beginning of July at the end of October, with a fall of the monthly medium flow going up to 0,91 m ³ in August, which remains extremely comfortable. But the fluctuations of flow are much more marked over moreover short periods or according to the years.
With the low water level, the VCN3 can fall until 0,250 m ³, in the event of dry period quinquennial, that is to say 250 liters a second, which excessively severe is not compared with other affluents of the basin of the Loire. Let us recall that the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.
As for the risings, they can be very important taking into account the rather average size of the river and its catchment area. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth respectively 31 and 48 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 59 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 69 m ³, while the QIX 50 is assembled to 83 m ³ a second (see note).
To have an idea of the importance of these flows, one can compare them with those of an affluent of the Seine in the west of Paris, the the Eure (in Louviers), which rolls on average 26,2 m ³ on a territory of 5 935 km ². The QIX 10 of the Eure at the end of the course is worth 96 m ³ (against 59 for Vègre) and its QIX 20 is assembled to 110 m ³ (against 69 for Vègre). Thus in spite of a less wide basin more or less fifteen times and a medium flow about eight times less, the volume of believed of Vègre are worth more than sixty % of the volume of those of the Eure, which gives an idea of the relative importance of believed of Vègre.
The maximum instantaneous flow recorded with Asnières-on-Vègre during this 28 years period, was of 71 m ³ a second on January 14th, 2004, while the value maximum day laborer was of 60,9 m ³ a second the same day. By comparing the first of these values with the scale of the QIX of the river, it appears clearly that this rising was of a vicennial nature (20 years), and thus intended to rather frequently reproduce.
Vègre is a fairly abundant river, rather well supplied with precipitations in its basin. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 250 millimetres annually, which is certainly lower than the overall average of France all confused basins, but definitely higher than the average of the basin of the the Sarthe (201 millimetres with Saint-Denis-in Anjou). The specific Flow of the river (or Qsp) reached of this fact the figure of 7,9 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
