Vault Holy-Cecile
Currently only the canopy of the bedside remains.
The 16th century had provided to this vault at least two other canopies of which we have description. The subjects were, in large bay of the southern transept, a life of Holy Cecile, and in small bay an Annunciation is northern transept.
Apart from these descriptions we know little things about their disappearance.
In 1878, in a work on the stained glass in Brittany, Auguste André includes a article published in a Bulletin of the archaeological Company of Finistere. It is the first description which I know. Then it was in 1904, the turn of the Abgrall canon, article which was partly shown in March 1906 by the Revue sacred art .
In 1922, Corroze and Gay would have taken photographs of them, given thereafter to the researcher Jean Lafond, photographs which remain untraceable.
These stained glasses, as that currently existing were classified in 1906
About the disappearance of the two stained glasses, one knows only few things. Jean Lafond indicates that at the time of his passage they already perished of misery, and that of the chorus is in a pitiful state. One can also put the question of a demounting of the remainders by a glassmaker for a possible restoration which did not succeed; the local memory seems to affirm it.
The canopy of the bedside before 1981 Of this canopy, before this date which announces its restoration, it remained more places from there only forty five percent of old stained glasses. The missing parts were out of frosted glass and a few pieces of blue color out of flat glass which had been used here and there of which the dress of the Virgin. These elements can give us an approach of a small posterior restoration to the second part of the 19th century. This way of proceeding, which is closer to the conservation than of the restoration, is typical of a workshop quimpérois as that of Cassaigne which lived place in Beurre.ne not having a furnace, nor of greyness and not the enough skilful hand to perhaps take again parts in the spirit of old. It restored thus, saving unquestionable ruin, many stained glasses of the area quimpéroise.
Description of the canopy of the bedside.
