Uvernet-furnaces

Uvernet-Furnaces is a common French, located in the department of the Alp-of-High-Provence and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure, close to the Vallée of Ubaye.

Its inhabitants is called Uvernetais.

Geography

  • the commune is in the small valley of Bachelard, has some kilometers of Barcelonnette. It is on the road towards the Col of Cayolle.
  • It gathers several villages and hamlets disseminated in the throats of Bachelard: Uvernet, Furnaces, the St. Lawrence, Saint-Louis, Bayasse, Agneliers.

History

  • Before the Revolution, the hamlets of Uvernet-Furnaces were administratively under the dependence of Barcelonnette. In 1790, two communes were create: Uvernet and Fours, which was attached in 1973 to form the current commune of Uvernet Fours.

  • In 1962, the ski station of Pra Loup was created on the territory of the commune.

  • Until the 19th century, the hamlets of Uvernet-Furnaces were known for their original folklore.
