Usinor is an iron and steel group French founded in 1948 and which amalgamated the February 18th 2002 with the Spanish Aceralia and the Luxembourg Arbed to form the European group Arcelor.
To the beginning of the year 2006, the Dutch group Mittal (of Indian origin) launched a hostile APERTURE on Arcelor which leads to a fusion of the two in June 2006 groups to form Arcelor-Mittal.
Chronology of Usinor
- 1948: Creation of Usinor, which takes the continuation of the Forging mills and AciƩries of North and the East and the Blast furnaces, Forges and Steel-works of Denain-Anzin
- 1948: Creation of Sollac, which takes the continuation of the Lorraine iron and steel industry
- 1964: Creation of Sacilor, whose origin goes up with the group Wendel (Famille of Wendel beginning of the 18th century)
- 1981: Nationalization of Usinor and Sacilor
- 1986: Fusion of Usinor and Sacilor
- 1990: Absorption of Sollac by Usinor
- 1991: Absorption of Ugine by Sacilor
- 1994: Regrouping of the special steels within the holding Aster
- 1995: Privatization of Usinor-Sacilor
- 1997: Usinor-Sacilor becomes Usinor
- 1998: Acquisition of Cockerill-Sambre, owner of EKO Stahl
- 1999: New organization of the group Usinor
