Urziceni

Urziceni is a town of Romania located in the Judeţ de Ialomiţa, which with a population of 17.089 inhabitants.

Founded by Rumanian shepherds, his name comes from the word " urzică" (nettle). The place is mentioned for the first time in a writing of the April 23rd 1596, during the reign of Mihai Viteazul. It obtains the statute of town of fair and in 1895 the statutes of city. It was during 117 years (of 1716 to 1833) the chief town of the Judeţ de Ialomiţa.
