Urussanga

Urussanga is a city Brésil ienne south of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located by a Latitude of 28º 31 ' 04" south and a Longitude of 49º 19 ' 15" west, with a Altitude of 49 meters. Its population is estimated at: 19279 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 240 km ².

General information

Urussanga was founded by a Engineer originating in the State of the Maranhão, Joaquim Vieira Ferreira, on May 26th 1878, and became a municipality the 6 of October 1900. Principal core of settlement Italy N in the south of the Santa Catarina, the city is especially known for its Gastronomie and the production of Vin. The even years, it is held to with it the Festa C Vinho (“festival of the French wine”), and the years odd, the Ritorno ale Origini (of Italian, “return at the French origins”). First place in August and the second has the day of the birthday of the municipality. One celebrates there the culture inherited the first immigrants, with force music, food and wine.

For a long time, the main activity of the city was the extraction of Houille. Indeed, the city is located on one of the principal carboniferous basins of the country (with the towns of Lauro Müller, Siderópolis and Criciúma).

Geography

The topography of the municipality is rather broken, with only plane ground 30% for 70% with a slope higher than 20%. The city has a tropical climate sub wet, without dry season with a hot summer. The temperatures vary 42,2ºC with 4,6ºC, for an annual average of 19,2ºC. The winter is cold and wet, with some occasional frosts. The rains are well distributed over the year, without periods of dryness and not causing a frequent Inondation S. The Pluviométrie is of 1.540 mm per annum, for an average relative moisture of the air of 81,5%.

The vegetation is of type Cerrado, with presence of some native trees.

Hydrography

The city is bathed by the Rio Urussanga. Its water presents a state of characterized pollution however, mainly because of presence of companies of extraction of coal.

Economy

The economic fabric of the city is diversified enough. In the sector Industry L, one counts plastic industries , Céramique, of the Meuble, as well as production of agricultural equipment. On the level of the Agriculture, one distinguishes mainly the cultures from the Maïs, the Haricot, the Riz and the Tabac, as well as the Viticulture and the breeding of Porc S and Volaille S.
