Uroplatus pietschmanni
Uroplatus pietschmanni is a Espèce of geckos of Madagascar which was recently discovered (2004). They are rather massive Lézard S night and arboricolous of aspect, with a very advanced camouflage, but not of barbules on the lathe of the body contrary to some other species of this kind. The body is rough, with small “points”.
One meets sometimes this species under the name of Uroplatus spiny .
Geographical distribution
This gecko is endemic is island of Madagascar, and lives in the primary forest close to the coasts.
Subspecies
No known subspecies to date.
Climatic parameters
The temperature varies between 27 and 23°C the day according to the places, and falls towards 20°C the night, sometimes definitely less. During the cold season these temperatures can lower approximately 5°C.
Moisture is raised, between 60 and more than 70% according to the season and the moment of the day.
It should be noted that in the primary forest these geckos almost never receives direct lighting of the sun.
Breeding in captivity
This species is considered difficult, because it is recent and little known. The reproduction is of more difficult to obtain, and they are not very prolific animals.
Food
This gecko is Insectivore and consumes the majority of the Insecte S of adapted size.

The females are a little taller and grosses that the males. Moreover males present two bulges of each with dimensions base of the tail, housing of the Hémipénis. Finally the females also have bags with Calcium at the base of the nape of the neck.
Reproduction
The reproduction seems to take place at the end of the summer until the printemps.
The males push cries and make movements of tail to approach the females.
Layings
The eggs are laid by two, at one or two months of interval.
Incubation
The eggs incubate during four to five months according to the temperature.
The small ones
The small ones, which makes four or five centimetres, have the same needs that the adults, but are more sensitive to dehydration.
Diseases
As all the reptile S alive in moist environment these geckos are sensitive to the dehydration, which can produce problems of moults or of the more serious disorders.
