The Urdu or Urdu (1947; local name: urdū/اردو ) is a Indian language pertaining to the Indo-Iranian group of the family of the Indo-European Langues. He is spoken with the Pakistan, of which he is the Official language, like in north about the India, where he is also an official language recognized by the Constitution. Approximately 160 million people uses the Urdu one, including 60 to 80 million which uses it like first language.

Proximity with other languages

Very near to the Hindi by its syntax and its morphology (before 1947 one called Hindoustânî the Hindi and the Urdu one, which constituted only one language), it made many lexical Emprunts with the Arab and the Persan, languages which introduced into its phonological system additional phonemes. The variation with the Hindi tends to increase since separation of India and Pakistan (1947), by a “repersanisation” of the language and an elimination of the Sanskrits terms. The Urdu one is written according to the C-W communication arabo-Persian known as nasta `līq .

Geographical distribution

The Urdu one is the Official language Pakistan. It is used in the education system, the literature and the courses.

In India, the Urdu one is also an official language recognized by the constitution. The Urdu one is also the official language of the States of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh, and of the national capital, Delhi. In some universities of India, the Urdu one is considered a language of prestige. It is true for the cities of the Lucknow, Aligarh and Hyderabad.
