The urban mutual Pari (or PMU ) is a French company whose activities are the design, promotion, the marketing and the treatment of the bets on the horse-races. Created in 1930, the PMU is equipped with a statute of GIE gathering 73 companies of races. Among them, two companies known as “mothers” have the role of organizing and of regulating the races. It is about France Gallop for the French Cheval and obstacle and flat races, for the trotting races.
The PMU ensures the recording of the bets in 8.000 sales outlets or remote (Internet, Wap), the calculation of the reports/ratios and the payment of the profits to the punters. In accordance with the principle of the mutual bet, the PMU distributes the sums played between gaining after deduction of the taking away.
8,1 billion euros of turnover: the PMU recorded in 2006 a new rise of its activity (+1,2%). This growth benefits at the same time with the punters and the Cheval die, that the PMU finances to 80%.
In 2004, 5,5 billion euros was poured to them, that is to say a rate of redistribution of 72.5%. As comparison, one will be able to note that the site Zeturf.com, single competitor of the PMU on Internet, redistributes 95% of the stakes for its part. It should however be noted that this competition is, for the time being, regarded as illegal, since the French courts condemned this company of Maltese right, the PMU having the monopoly on the horse bets in France. This judgment was however not transposed to Malta, where Zeturf thus carries on its activity legally. At this stage the debate which opposes protectionist legislations like that of France, and European jurisprudence, favorable to the opening to competition in the sector of the plays was not definitively distinct. It seems probable that the opening to competition will be carried out in the months or years to come.
In 2004, the PMU was the first company of horse bets in Europe and was classified with the second world rank, behind the Japanese mutual bet, with 7,6 billion euros turnover and 6,5 million customers.
The PMU makes it possible to place various types of bets, on trotting races, of dish and obstacles.
Previously, the PMU allowed only miser on the French races, but for a few years, it has opened with the world great events (Dubai World Cup, Derby of Epsom, Elitloppet…).
There exist many types of plays to the PMU, but also various techniques of play.
It is enough to choose a horse, and to say if it will arrive “gaining” (victorious race) or “placed” (in the three first). The profits are calculated according to the dimension of the horse. The dimensions are fixed according to the settings of the whole of the punters, and thus more the horse is awaited (favorite), plus the report/ratio is weak.
It is necessary to find the two first of the race.
It is necessary to find two horses among the 3 first.
It is necessary to find the three first of the race, without specifying the order of arrival.
It is the great classic of the PMU, and it is this play which ensured its success during very many years. Since, in spite of an undeniable decline with the profit of the fifth, there remains a sure value.
The principle of tiercé is to find the first three racehorses, in the order.
Launched to give again a blow of young person to the PMU vis-a-vis rivals promising of the very important profits (
Lotto of the French of the Plays in particular), the quad + consists in finding the first four racehorses, in the order. It is of course much more difficult than tiercé, which makes it possible to consider profits much higher, but also much rarer.
Always confronted with increasingly wild competitors (
Euro Million for example), the PMU must him also adapt and promise profits increasingly higher, free so that the frequency of the profits decreases. The fifth + was thus launched to this end, and it is today the play high-speed motorboat of the PMU. The principle consists in finding the first five racehorses, in the order. Moreover, one system of moneybox was set up in
2004, utilizing the chance: each validated ticket receives a number says “number more”, and if this number is the number more of the day, the profits are multiplied by 10. If the player finds this day the fifth in the order, it takes down the “moneybox” (which can rise up to 10 million euros).
As its name indicates it, it is necessary to choose two horses, and to hope that they finish in the four first of the race to gain.
Multi leaves to the punter a certain room for maneuver between importance and frequency of the profit. Indeed, the principle is to find the first four racehorses, but for that, the punter can select four, five, six or seven horses. Of course, more you select horses, plus your chances to gain are important, but your profit will be weaker. Contrary, if you select four of them, your chances to gain are weaker, but the profit will be higher.
The Spot is the equivalent of the Flash system of the French of the Plays. The principle is to let the computer choose the combination in the place of the player. However, the Spot is more advanced, insofar as it takes account of the bets already recorded by the whole of the punters, in order to propose a “realistic” combination. Indeed, the PMU is based on races with competitors having different capacities. Also, if the combination chosen by the computer were completely random, it would produce results often too far away from reality. The chance is thus partly attenuated by the taking into account of the bets of the other players. The Spot system is usable on the bets Trio, Multi, 2 out of 4 and of course, Quinté. There exists also another version of the Spot, which makes it possible to the punter to choose one or more competitors itself, and to leave the choice of the remainder of the combination to the computer.
Launched in
2007, it has as an key objective to generate reports/ratios a little more interesting for the players followers of coupled. Indeed, Quadrio consists in finding the first two horses of the fifth of the day, but also the two first of the following race. To gain, it is enough to have found 2 horses (the profit refunds the setting in general, hardly more), 3 horses, the 4 horses in the disorder or the 4 horses in the order (either the equivalent of two coupled order). Of course, the reports/ratios for the 4 horses in the order are highest (approximately 400€ for an arrival of favorites, more than 30.000 € in the event of arrival of dead losses).
