Urban community of Bordeaux

The Urban community of Bordeaux (or CUB) is a French inter-commune structure , located in the department of the the Gironde and the area of Aquitaine (South-western of France). It gathers 27 communes of the agglomeration of Bordeaux.
The CUB is the 6th more important agglomeration of France.

History

It was creates in 1966 by the law of the bearing December 31st on the Urban communities, and establishing the Urban communities of Strasbourg, Lille, Lyon and Bordeaux. The Urban community called Bordeaux Métropole was installation the 1 {{er}}   January 1968. It gave up its old name with the beginning of the year 2000 to become the CUB.

Demography

The population of the CUB is of 660.091 inhabitants and it does not cease increasing. Indeed, from here 2010 the population should increase by 100.000 inhabitants. The population of Bordeaux represents a third of the population of the agglomeration. Since 2000, the CUB counts approximately 12.000 births per annum and an inhabitant on three has less than 25 years. Over the 10 last years, the population growth of the capital of the Aquitaine was of 6,2% is approximately the double of the national average. With regard to the new populations which come to settle in the CUB, 40% of them have between 24 and 40 years.

Administration

The decisions of the Urban community are made by the Council of the Community which counts 120 members. These advisers are representatives of the 27 communes of the agglomeration (share of each commune proportional to its population). These advisers are appointed every 6 years after the municipal elections by the Municipal councils. The Council meets 11 times per annum at the head office of the CUB with Bordeaux.

Alain Rousset was elected following the compulsory resignation of Alain Juppe (UMP), condemned in 2004 to one year of ineligibility.

Missions of the CUB

The missions of the CUB correspond to the 12 responsibilities allocate to the urban communities by the law of the December 31st 1966, namely: economic development, town planning, the habitat, environment, water and the drainage system, the urban transport (TBC), the roadway system, parking, cemeteries, teaching, slaughter-houses and the Market of National interest (MIN)
The current great projects of the CUB are the contract of agglomeration 2006, the network of tram and its enlarging, the restoration of the quays and the Country house with Bordeaux, the high banc (Inolia), RAINED…
