Urban Pole

In France, according to the definition that INSEE gives some, a urban pole is a urban Unité offering at least 5000 employment and who is not located in the Couronne périurbaine of another urban pole.

In 1999, the Metropolitan France counted 3.100 urban poles (8% of the full number of communes), gathering 35.708.162 inhabitants (61% of the French population) on 44.030 km ² (8% of the surface).
