Urbain VI
Urbain VII ( Bartolemeo Prignano ), (born in 1318 with Naples - died the October 15th 1389 with Rome) was the 202e pope of the Roman Catholic church and the first Italian pope, elected with Rome, since the return of the the Holy See in the Eternal City the January 17th 1377 (see Gregoire {{XI}}).
Elected official pope in spring 1378, it will make himself so odious near the French cardinals that those, six months later, will elect a pope “ inhabitant of Avignon ”, Clement {{VII}}. It will be the beginning of the Great Schism of Occident, which will see two (and even sometimes three) popes on the throne of Saint-Pierre.
Urbain VII died in Rome the October 15th 1389.
