Uraga

Uraga (in Japanese 浦賀) is a harbor city entry of the Baie of Tōkyō, located in the part is Péninsule of Miura, at the northern end of the Détroit of Uraga. One of largest the shipyards of the Japan is installed there.

The position of Uraga, which was often the first contact point of the ships with Japan, in fact a strategic station of monitoring of the entry of bay, and a police chief police chief named Uraga-bugyō is stationed there for this purpose during the time of Edo. It is in front of Uraga that the American squadron led by the commodorre Matthew Perry drops anchor the January 8th 1853.
