Unreal is a Jeu of subjective shooting published by Epic Games which was born last Monday of May 1998, after developed by Epic and DIGITAL Extremes during approximately three years. It is the first opus of a series of plays. Unreal is famous for its revolutionary graphics in its time, its inventiveness and for its original arsenal. It also integrates the first version of the editor of charts of the Unreal Engine: UnrealEd.

Presentation

This play was regarded as the direct competitor of the series of the Quake of Id Software, its technology being slightly higher than the Quake and Quake II reciprocally left 2 and 1 years earlier. It integrated models entirely in three dimensions, and the possibilities of coloured lightings, already present under Quake 2, were finally fully used. Unreal soothsayer very quickly one of the most popular plays among the amateurs of First-person shooter, but suffered then from an erratic support of the network game and on the Net. It is only with Unreal Tournament that Unreal was essential like one of the leaders undeniable of the play Multijoueur.

History

The formerly peaceful Faded Na planet is populated only one only intelligent species: Nalis. The latter are unaware of the use of violence completely. Well before the beginning of the play, the quarrelsome race of the Skaarjs installed a base advanced on this planet and reduced its population in slavery, using the natives like slaves in the mines of tarydium. Nali, very religious, Na were not long in regarding their Masters as “demons of the sky”, sent by the gods to punish Nali of their sins and weaknesses. A third species only known under the name of “Mercenaries” and rival of Skaarjs, also installed a scientific complex, Terraniux, supported by a strong military garrison. Although Nalis and the Mercenaries had very few contacts, one can imagine that the attitude of the latter is rather neutral towards the original Faded Na population.

Right before the beginning of the play, two vessel human, the ship prison Vortex Riker (NC114-85EKLS ) and ISV-Kran, in transit towards a not communicated destination, enter the very powerful gravitational field of an unknown planet. Skaarjs vessels also appear on the screens. The unknown planet is not other than Faded Na, and they vessels are not long in being crushed on its surface.

The play starts when prisoner 849 incarnated by the player, awakes, certainly several days after the crash landing. It St put at the current of the situation by reading various personal files and control screens on board wreck of the Riker Vortex. It also meets there for the first time Skaarjs, which it on several occasions sees during a few moments.

849 is extracted from the vessel and discovers the paradise which would be Na Faded without the presence of Skaarjs and their troops of slaves and henchmen. The hero crosses villages Nali, mines, temples, as well as the monstrous carcass of ISV-Kran, whose lower levels are impracticable T the higher levels infested of Skaarjs on the war footing. He also visits Terraniux, installation of the Mercenaries who, surrounded by Skaarjs, are aggressive.

Worms has fine of its tour in the search of a means of escaping, the hero will cross one of the cities of the sky, built by Nali on one of the many asteroids which float with the top of the surface of planet to a few tens of kilometers, but still profiting from a respirable atmosphere, the Eversmoking Bluff, Monastère transformed into giant prison by Skaarjs and their Kralls subordinates, and the Nali Castle. This last is also with the hands of the invaders, and its basements are used as refuge with drawing War leader Skaarj, monstrous Skaarj winged equipped with a rocket launcher. 849 infiltrates then on board the vessel Skaarj mother, then with ground to the powerful generator providing of energy to all the machines. There it will meet a battalion of Skaarjs desperate led to the combat by the War leader of return.

After having made jump the generator and having massacred any resistance, the player recrosses in opposite direction the vessel mother to the compartments sheltering the auxiliary batteries, of which it uses the power to reach the “source”, which is not other than the Skaarj queen. After having beaten it, it seizes a pod of help and finally manages to be torn off with the Faded Na attraction… At the price of the totality of its fuel. The play finishes on a sight of the drifting pod in space, just out of reach planet, hoping for helps.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Unreal is famous for its speed and its strategic but nonrealistic aspect: a player touched course always at the same speed and does not worry about tiredness or the poid of the weapon which it carries. Play introduced for the first time into a video game, the Top spin-Jump allowing to benefit from the acceleration of the ascenceurs to multiply by ten a jump. The weapons of the play also were rented for their originality, and incorporate both fashions of shooting. Weapons

  • Automag : Not very powerful gun. It makes it possible to draw at normal rate from the very precise balls, or by inclining the weapon at the time it shooting, to draw more quickly but less precisely. It is about the only weapon of the play which needs to be reloaded after a certain number of drawn blows. The automag uses the same ammunition that Minigun, and the ammunition must thus be used with parsimony.

  • Stinger : This weapon is a machine-gun drawing from the glares of Taridyum, abundant blue crystal on the surface of NaPali. Its secondary shooting makes it possible to draw a flight from 5 crystals in only once. Fairly powerful and poorly specifies, this weapon is especially interesting for its speed.

  • Rifle ASMD : Arms with instantaneous shooting, which was called Fusil Shock in the opus according to, it car is a long beam which makes it possible to push back the enemy by causing him average damage, that is to say to draw a slow ball which causes damage of zone by touching an obstacle.
