Uno
Uno is a Board game created in 1971 by Merle Robbins and published by Mattel. It is based on the rules of the Eight American.
Rules of the game
Goal of the play
To be the player who has less charts, therefore less points. It is also necessary to be the first player not to have more charts in hands.
Contents of the play
108 charts distributed in the following way:
- 4 numbered charts 0 (1 of each color: blue, red, yellow, green)
- 18 credit cards, numbered between 1 and 9
- 18 red charts, numbered between 1 and 9
- 18 yellow charts, numbered between 1 and 9
- 18 green charts, numbered between 1 and 9
- 8 charts " +2" , (2 of each color)
- 8 charts " INVERSION" , (2 of each color)
- 8 charts " TO PASS TOUR" , (2 of each color)
- 4 charts " JOKER"
- 4 charts " +4"
The Uno version of luxury contains moreover: a shoe of arrangement for the charts and a notebook of score.
The last version of this play comprises new charts such as:
- 2 charts " CHANGE DE JEU" (where the players must make pass their play to the following player)
- 4 charts " RENVOI" (which " renvoie" the effect of the chart played its owner)
- some charts " +2? " and " +4? " who have the same effect as charts " +2" and " +4" normals but which can be indifferently given to any player.
- " +1 Downpour" and " +2 Downpour" Aqua version which has the same effect as charts " +2" but which applies to all the players.
Preparation of the play
To mix carefully and to distribute 7 of them to each player. To make a pile with the remainder of the charts, hidden sides: it will constitute the pickaxe . To turn over the first chart of the pickaxe, to pose it face visible beside the pickaxe, in order to begin the heel . This chart will be useful like home base.
Course of the part
The player located on the left of that which distributed the charts starts to play. He must cover the higher chart with the heel by a chart of the same color, or carrying the same number or the same symbol as this one. For example, if the higher chart of the heel is one 7 red, it can play any red chart or one 7 of any color. It can also play a Joker chart (see special Cartes). If the player does not have charts offering one of these possibilities to him, it must then draw the higher chart from the pickaxe. If this chart can be played, it can then play it, by posing it on the heel; if not it passes its turn, by preserving obviously this additional chart. When a player plays his penultimate chart, it must immediately announce " aloud; UNO" to indicate to its adversaries which it does not have any more but only one chart in hand. If he forgets it, and that one of its adversaries realizes some and points out to him, he must then draw 2 charts from penalty in the pickaxe. In its turn, it is allowed not to play, even if a playable chart is had. It is then necessary to draw a chart from the pickaxe. If it is " jouable" , this one can then be played immediately. The player who got rid the first of all his charts is the winner of the sleeve. One establishes the scores of this sleeve (see Score chapter) and one engages then the sleeve suivante.et it can gain.
Conventions
The donor: At the beginning of each handle, each player draws a chart randomly. That which has the figure more raised distributes the charts. The special charts are worth zero. The player located immediately on his left starts to play.
The heel: The first chart of the pickaxe is posed face visible beside the pickaxe, in order to begin the heel. This chart is used as a basis of departure. If it is a special chart, certain particular conventions are applicable (see following chapter).
Special charts
Here their significance and the effects which they produce:
-
"+2"
- " Inversion"
- " To pass a tour"
- " Joker"
- " +4"
- " UNO" chart;
- " +1 Downpour" and " +2 Downpour"
End of a sleeve
One must announce " UNO" by playing its penultimate chart, before it is posed on the heel. If one forgets to make this advertisement at this time, one is likely to be penalized by his adversaries if one of them the remark before the following player does not play (i.e. its chart plays or draws a chart from the pickaxe). It is interdict to finish by a combination of charts in a movement; the player must in all the cases announce " UNO" before posing its last chart. (see combinations ) If the last played chart is a chart " +2" or " +4" , the following player will have to draw 2 charts or 4 charts in the pickaxe, before the scores are established. If the pickaxe is exhausted before the end of a sleeve, the heel will be mixed (except the last chart, which will be used as continuity).
Score
The first player to be itself removed from all his charts gains the sleeve and marks points according to the charts that all its adversaries still have in hand at this moment. One counts the points in the following way:
- All numbered charts from 0 to 9: Value facial (0, L ...... 9)
- " +2" : 20 points
- " INVERSION" 20 points
- " TO PASS TOUR": 20 points
- " JOKER" 50 points
- " +4": 50 points
Traditionally, the winner is the player who at the conclusion of several handles reaches 500 points. However, for more equity, one can also hold the scores by registering the number of points which each player has in hand at the end of each handle, and when a player reached or exceeds 500 points, that which has less points is then the winner.
The Aqua version of Uno being a tight and playable version in water, it is played without counting the scores. The winner is thus the player who succeeded in indifferently gaining 3 handles in the part of the value of the charts remaining in hand of the other players.
Penalties
Any comment or any inopportune council could be penalized by 2 charts to draw in the pickaxe! When somebody plays a chart " +4" , the following player can be wary, and can ask to see his play for checking. And if this chart were not logically to be played, the player which has just posed it ill-advisedly begins again it, and it is then with him to draw 4 charts from the pickaxe and to pass its turn. On the other hand, if it had the right well to play this chart, the player " suspicieux" wrongly must then draw 2 charts moreover in the pickaxe (that is to say 6 on the whole) and pass its turn. Then a council: bluffez advisedly!

With 4 players, one can also decide to play in 3 handles, each player having a different partner for each of the 3 handles. One holds the scores then in the following way each one individually adds up his points for each handle.

UNO H2O Splash Range
Recently, version H2O Splash of the UNO makes it possible to play in water. The play comprises moreover two new charts. " Downpour" +1 and +2. If a chart " Downpour" +1 or +2 is played, all the other players must pick one or two charts, according to the chart " Downpour" played. That which plays the chart can also choose a new color; the play continues then in the same direction. These charts are compatible with the instructions of original play UNO.
