Univision

Univision is the Spanish wide-area network of television channels of expression E with the the United States of America with nearly 80% of rate of audience in the Spanish-speaking hearths and the fifth American network any type confused behind Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS.

Its main competitor is Telemundo group NBC Universal.

History

Birth of a television channel

In 1961, KWEX the first station televised in Spanish language starts to emit with San Antonio with the Texas for the local community. It is financed by Telesistema Mexicano, the televised branch of Televisa, the most important group of private media Mexican. A television network is constituted quickly around this station, it is called the Spanish International Network (SIN) which since became an entity of Univision.

Televised resells the network with Hallmark Cards which renames it Univision . Hallmark uses the authorization of the FCC to repeat the Telenovela S of Televised on half of its programming. The other part makes up of produced original series with Miami.

In 1992, Hallmark resells Univision with A. Jerrold Perenchio, Venevision and Televisa its former owner. the latter lay off one the third of manpower of Miami and increase the share of the programs coming from Televised. Henry Cisneros, former head of the Department of the habitat and the urban development under Bill Clinton, is named president of Univision Communications . The television network is named Television Univision

In September 1996, Univision between with New York Stock Exchange under the symbol UVN .

Diversification in a group of media

In September 2000, Univision launches Univision Online , a subsidiary company dedicated to technologies around Internet and which manages the Univision.com site.
In December 2000, Univision buys the network the USA Broadcasting , held previously by the USA Networks, for 1,1 billion $. The network increases with the 13 television broadcast stations and the interests in 4 others of its competitor. Univision re-elects this network TeleFutura and keeps it like a dissociated network of Univision Television.

In 2001, the Univision.com site became the first site in Spanish language for the American Hispanic community and as of December, the site joins AOL in order to better satisfy the needs for the communauté.
In April 2001, Univision Communications diversifies and launches the Univision Music Group to produce singers and groups latinos.
In June 2001, the musical group repurchases 50% of DISA Records, the second independent label in the world in language espagnole.
In December 2001, Univision, Televised and Venevision forms an alliance in order to organize " their concurrence" jusuq' in 2017. Univision obtains with its three networks the exclusiveness in the programs in Televised and Venevision in the United States. Moreover, the company obtains the exploitation, in association, of the direct American interests of Televised (paying cabled chains, of televised films, vidéos musical and for youth). N the other hand, Televised and Venevision increase their participation in Univision Communications (current participations: 15% for Televised, 19% for Venevision).

In January 2002, TeleFutura Network is reorganized to become a continuous network of diffusion in Spanish. In one year it becomes number two on this crenel behind his big brother Television Univison.
In April 2002, the musical group buys Fonovisa , an important label specialized in Mexican regional music. Thanks to this acquisition, Univision Music Group became number on the Spanish music in the United States.
In June 2002, Univison announces the purchase of Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation , the principal American radiophonic network in Spanish language. The transaction finished in September 2003.

The September 27th 2006, the Univision group finalizes its repurchase by a group of finiancier including/understanding Madison Dearborn Partners , Providence Equity Partners , Texas Pacific Group , Thomas H. Lee Partners and Haim Saban. The repurchase their cost 36,25 $ per action is nearly 12,6 billion $.

The October 19th 2006, Univision Television and Radio settles in a new complex of studio with Houston with the Texas.

November 1st 2006, the group acquires the integrality of DISA Records.

Univision Television Group gathers Spanish televisions (61 stations)

Television Univision Network the television network of origin of the company. It includes/understands 18 stations full power and 9 low power for the network Univision Network as well as a station diffusing UPN.
