Training of engineer

The student-engineers of the UTC are divided into two groups: joint bases (TC) and branches (GX, where X is replaced by a code specific to the branch of the student).

Joint base

The pupils of joint base come for the majority from the college or have an equivalent foreign diploma (many students come indeed from French-speaking countries others that France). Some have already with their credit one year of preparatory class, faculty or school. The latter can obtain by equivalence a certain number of matters (units of value).

The joint base is carried out in four six-month periods (two years), it can however be exceptionally carried out in three six-month periods (mainly for the students having a certain number of equivalences) or in five six-month periods even six (after study on a case-by-case basis by a jury of follow-up).

During this joint base, the students can carry out a training course of the “working” type one month or those which wish it abroad a training course. The two training courses last 1 month each one and can be cumulated.

The cycle of joint base is sanctioned by Deutec (Diploma of academic works of technology). This diploma ensures the students of joint base the entry in the branch of their choice.

Branches

Half of the students entering in branch was in base joint to the UTC, the remainder of the students were previously in Preparatory classes, IUT, BTS or DEUG.

The branches correspond to the six six-month periods (three years) of the cycle engineer.

The UTC exempts courses the following fields:

biological Genius (GB)
Genius of processes (GP) in the past Chemical engineering (GC)
data-processing Genius (GI)
mechanical Engineering (GM)
Genius of the mechanical systems (GSM)
Genius of the urban systems (GSU)

Each university of technology proposes a number different of branches.

Moreover, the majority of the branches propose several dies. The students also have the possibility of defining a personalized course.

Independently of that, the students also can, by choosing certain UV (units of value) to validate a “minor” of which it will be made mention on their diploma.

These characteristics ensure a great freedom in the establishment of the profile of each student.

Studies abroad

The UTC also proposes many possibilities of training course or studies abroad: it indeed has agreements with other universities making it possible a pupil to make one six-month period of studies abroad and to validate a double diploma: diploma UTC and diploma in a foreign university.

The various training courses (workman or engineer) can also be carried out abroad.

Units of value

Previously used, the system of UV is not today any more topicality with the UTC. 180 thus should now be validated ECTS (appropriations), distributed in various categories, and following certain proportions. Thus to be graduate, the student engineer must validate:

Competences of the branch (84 minimum ECTS)

Of which a minimum of 30 ECTS in the " category; Scientifiques" knowledge; (CS),
Of which a minimum of 30 ECTS in the " category; Techniques and Méthodes" (TM),

General culture (16 minimum ECTS)

Of which a minimum of 4 ECTS in the " category; Management of Entreprises" (ME),
Of which a minimum of 4 ECTS in the " category; Culture and Technologies" (CT),

" Expression and Communication" (EC.) with a total of 12 minimum ECTS,
the 8 remaining appropriations are to be taken in any other UV, making it possible thus really each student to make a personalized course.

Notation

Each UV has its own marking system, defined by the professor in charge of their teaching. In general, obtaining a UV depends on an examination in semi-six-month period (“median”) and on an examination of end of six-month period (“final”). Certain UV have a continuous assessment in the form of tests or maintenance. Others still depend only on one final examination or a project.

The marking system used is the European system:

Absent (in the event of absence with the one of the tests)

Masters and formations Third cycle

The UTC also exempted, before the reform LMD or 3:5: 8, several types of formations of third cycle: DEA, OF the and doctorates. The DEA and OF were replaced by a master “Sciences and Technology”, mention seeks for the old DEA and professional mention for the old ones OF. The students of the formation 3rd cycle come sometimes from the formation engineer but often from another university or school.

The students engineers of the UTC have the possibility of asking for their admission directly in second year of master, certain lesson being common to both formations. They thus carry out the second year of master in parallel with their last year of training of engineer, and thus obtain two diplomas at the end of the year.

Means of teaching

Average data processing

The use of average data processing is omnipresent as well within the framework of the formation as within the framework of the internal communication. For this purpose of many data-processing stations and software are at the disposal of the students in the buildings of the UTC. Those are accessible until 23:00 as well as the weekend.

To each student an address email is allotted validates until the end of second half of the year of branch (prénom.nom@etu.utc.fr and login@etu.utc.fr), then an address with life as of the third six-month period of branch (prénom.nom@tremplin-utc.net), a space public Web ( http://wwwetu.utc.fr/~login ) as well as a private space of data storage.

The students have moreover access to a discussion forum interns (newsgroup) very practical to ask of the assistance or to communicate information.

BUTC

The BUTC is the library of the UTC. One finds there works scientific corresponding to the various branches as well as works of general culture. Many French periodicals ( Le Monde , Picardy Mail , Science and Vie , etc), German ( Die Welt , X-ray , etc), English as in some other languages are also available.

The majority of works are available to the loan one or two weeks. Some books are however prohibited with the loan.

In addition to library Franklin (building where proceed the majority of the courses), one also finds in Royallieu (research center) points libraries containing mainly technical works intended to the researchers and for the pupils of third cycle.

Activities

Activities of February

During February, i.e. the period between the six-month period of autumn and the six-month period of spring (intersemestre), the pupils not having any university obligation (training course, seminar) can take part in a project within the framework of the activities of February.

The choice of the project is free: the students must during the six-month period autumn deposit a file by stating that they wish to do. If the project is accepted, it will be subsidized by the UTC. This project can be individual or by group. Many associations propose subjects for the activities of February.

One thus finds projects as varied as a turn of Eastern Europe at cultural ends, the realization of a play or technical realizations. The subject of an activity of February can imply competences of engineers as it can relate to very an other field.

Sport

The UTC, by the means of UTC-Sport, proposes to the pupils forty sports activities.

The majority of the activities are proposed in partnership with the sports associations of Compiegne which grant to the members UTC-Sport a preferential rate.

The sport with the UTC is not obligatory.

However, a personalized course can be under consideration for the high level sportsmen. All the students can also ask so that their timetable be organized in their leaving Thursday afternoon of free for an sports activity.

Associations coeds

Community life is organized around association BDE-UTC (Bureau of the students of the University of Technology of Compiegne). Associations that this one federates are managed by students with the agreement and the support of the administration, the associations coeds of the UTC many and are varied.

They can correspond to a technical project (Cut E=M6, Ecomarathon…), to allow to take part in humanitarian actions, cultural (overall music, choral society, theater…), being related on the tolerance and good citizenship (Fight against the homophobie, Users of free software, Engineers without borders…), to discover the work world (the Junior undertaken USEC), or quite simply to contribute to the environment of the life coed (studied Newspaper, bar-hearth, clubs various and varied).

To make it possible associations coeds to exist, the direction of the UTC places at the disposal of the BDE-UTC a building of the University called Maison of the students builds in 1993 in extension of the university buildings.

It also belongs to the BDE-UTC to frame the integration of the new students. The week of integration is the occasion, in an festive atmosphere, to make knowledge (sponsorship of new), to discover the town of Compiegne and the university. Of course the week of integration is not obligatory and does not raise to in no case Bizutage.

These associations law 1901 are federated by the BDE-UTC which is itself an association law 1901.

The participation in community life, if it is optional, is however highly encouraged by the establishment, in particular by the means of the Payment of the studies.

The network the old ones

the association of the graduates, Springboard-UTC, is made up of 13.000 old.

Research

The UTC is also an important research center. It obtained in March 2006, of the delegated minister to Higher education and Research, the label " Carnot". This certification rewards its effective collaboration between its research units and of the partners, of the companies. Here the list of the research units of the university:
