University of sciences and Houari-Boumediene technology

The University of sciences and technology Houari-Boumediene (USTHB) is a Université located in the commune of Bab-Ezzouar at about fifteen kilometers of Algiers in Algérie. The university was designed by the architect Brésil IEN Oscar Niemeyer and was inaugurated in 1974. One can follow various formations there: mathematics pure and applied, physical, chemistry, biology, geology, civil engineering, electronics, data processing, genius of the processes, mechanical engineering. etc

Second larger university of Algeria after the university of Blida, it enjoys an major importance in the university formation of the country, and counts more than 20.000 students in the various training areas.

The campus

Very large from its surface it counts:

a block of institutes of which the structure is rather complex (the new institute of data processing is independent).
a score of amphitheaters named of “has” to “Z”.
3 blocks of rooms familiarly called 100 and 200, 300 and 400 and New blocks.
an auditorium which is one of the more big rooms of projection in Algeria.
the vice-chancellorship.
a university village which includes: a versatile room, a canteen, the Publications Office university for the sale of books, a post office, a club of music with material (guitars, batteries, low. etc), a club of drawing, a club of plays (billiards inter alia), a club of Operations research and a cybercafé intended for the students of 5th year or more.
a library intended for the loan of scientific works (the duration of the loan is 2 weeks).
a French-speaking numerical campus located in the old computer center intended for remote education, reserved with the students in post- graduation.
a large carpark of students.

6 refreshment bars.
4 kiosks (of with dimensions of the refreshment bars) and two others of with dimensions of the carpark.
a very great number of green areas very characteristic of the university.

System of formation

The old system of ingéniorat and training of high-level technicien has just been abandoned by the USTHB in favor of the new system known as “LMD” for (License Master Doctorat) instead of (Ingéniorat Magistère Doctorate).

Main issues

the average of the time of way to carry out by the students to the rather important university being (up to 3 a.m. for the most distant students) due to an obstruction important of the roads in Algiers and in spite of the presence of university transport in certain areas, the main issue for the student with the USTHB remains transport without any doubt.
the repetitive gèves are also a great factor of instability, indeed certain students change die radically and give up their academic years because of the prolonged strikes.
the failure of the material limits the interest of practical works, the basic research is also seen sanctioned by the lack of means allotted.
