The Université of Uppsala (in Swedish, Uppsala universitet ) is a Université of State located at Uppsala, in Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is oldest and most prestigious of the universities of Scandinavia.
The most remarkable building of the College library is Carolina Rediviva, the “Carolina revived”, thus named in reference to the Academia Carolina , which sheltered the library of the university until in 1691, date on which it was transferred on the most floor from Gustavianum, where it escaped the large fire miraculeusement from the city in 1702. In the middle of the 18th century century, there were projects to bring back it to Academia Carolina. The building was demolished in 1778 to leave the place to a new library, but it was never rebuilt, and the old site, beside the cathedral, is occupied today by a lawn. Carolina Rediviva current was built elsewhere and completed in 1841.
The current college library includes/understands 19 sections, of which that of the Carolina building.
Founded in 1302, the hospital is older than the university and amalgamated later with the university private clinic. This hospital has was useful during 400 years, to the large fire of 1702 which destroyed a great part of the city. A new hospital was created, but was moved apart from the city in 1811.
