History
The University of Sherbrooke was born from the desire to establish a university French-speaking Catholique in an area initially with strong anglophone density. At its beginnings, the school activity is marked by the religious rites. Towards the end of the Years 1960, the number of priests who work for the University largely fell. The year 1975 marks to some extent the official end of the religious activity in this establishment, since a laic vice-chancellor is named. Nevertheless, let us note that the Department of theology is only in Quebec with being still officially roman catholic. In 2007, the activities of UdeS are especially centered on the formation and research.
