University of Saint-Etienne

The University of Saint-Etienne , officially created the March 27th 1969, is the pilot establishment of higher education inhabitant of Saint-Etienne, joined together within the university pole of Saint-Etienne (which counts ten establishments of which the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the mines of Saint-Etienne). It is in 1989 that it takes the name of University Jean Monnet, the founding father of the European Community.

History

It is with the beginning of the year sixty that with Saint-Etienne a university higher education develops. March 27th 1969, the University of Saint-Etienne is officially created.

Since the origin, in phase with its time it sets up traditional university educations what enables him to present today to it quasi totality of the disciplines and dies professionnalized. The beginning of decade 90 sees in particular creation of a school of engineers and of a second IUT, with Roanne in addition to that of Saint-Etienne, as well as many professional diplomas of second and third cycles.

Since the origin also, it makes carry its efforts on continuing education and defines, as regards research of the original crenels in the context of the Area the Rhone-Alps.

In 1989, it takes the name of Jean Monnet, the father of Europe. Faithful to this last, it puts into 2003-2004 its diplomas at the European hour by adopting the system LMD (License, master, doctorate)
