the university of São Paulo (in Portuguese Universidade de São Paulo, USP) is one of the three public universities financed by the State de São Paulo. The USP is one of the largest establishments of Brazil and Latin America, with roughly: 75000 registered students.

It is composed of eleven campuses, four of them being in the town of São Paulo (the principal campus is called Campus Armando de Salles Oliveira). The other instructions are located in the towns of Bauru, Lorena, Piracicaba, Pirassununga, Ribeirão Preto and two campuses of them being the town of São Carlos. The USP is implied in teaching, research in all the fields of knowledge and was identified as a better university in Latin America.

The USP also gathered several of the establishments of research and higher education in the state, such as the polytechnic school, medical school (Faculdade de Medicina), and teaching body of Law Faculdade de Direito. (The polytechnic school includes departments of civil engineering, electric, mechanical, metallurgical, naval and oceanic, and chemical), and the school of Genius of São Carlos. The USP is regarded as university of higher Brazil and research institute. In its edition 2005, The Times Higher Education Supplement regarded the USP as being the 196ème better university in the world. The EGI announced that the USP is the fifty-eighth better university in the world, according to the edition 2006. The USP is regarded as the forty-fifth the most productive university on the sphere. The USP is the 28th most popular university in the world, among 7000 universities in 200 countries. According to the results of the row of Webometrics of the universities of the world, the USP is the best university of the whole of countries called BRIC.
