University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne
The University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA) is a multidisciplinary Université French. Its establishment is mainly on the town of Rheims but it also has antennas with Châlons-in-Champagne, Troyes and Charleville-Mézières.

A multidisciplinary university
The University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne is composed of 8 UFR, 1 University center, 2 IUT, 1 School of Engineers, 1 Technical Training institute Higher.University of an area gathering four departments (the Ardennes, Paddle, the Marne and Haute-Marne), the University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne offers a complete range of trainings in first and second cycle, and an appreciable number of formations of third cycle. More than fifty dies and a hundred and fifty three diplomas are thus proposed to the students. Moreover, more than fifty actions were installation in continuing education. Completely multi-field, the University is burst geographically. The seat of the Presidency is located at the center town, not far from the cathedral. The components are established, either in Rheims on three peripheral sites, or in other important cities of the area (Troyes, Charleville-Mézières, Châlons-in-Champagne). These last years, to answer the continuous surge of students, the University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne modernized its lesson, proposed new dies, delocalized some of its formations, increased its capacities of reception. Thus today, more than twenty three thousand students, out of Champagne-Ardenne, their studies continue. Because of many problems concerning the safety of the buildings, the students follow from now on their courses in " préfabriqués" installed in great haste on the carpark.
History
Past, present and future
Although it has old roots, the University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne exists, under its current form, since less than thirty years. Initially School cathedral, one of most important of Europe to the Middle Ages, the Université of Rheims is born in 1548, thanks to the intervention of the Cardinal of Lorraine which made him allot its load by papacy. Closed in 1793 pennies the French revolution, it knows an almost total eclipse during one century and half, to reappear in the Sixties. The Faculty of Science (1961), the University Literary College (1964), the University College of Right and Economic scenes (1966), the Academic institute of Technology of Rheims (1966), the mixed Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (1967), the National school of Dental surgery (1970) are the successive elements from which the University of Rheims was constituted in 1971. The creation of a I.U.T with Troyes (1973), of a Technical Training institute Higher (1985) and of a department of I.U.T (1995) than Charleville-Mézières, the development with Troyes of a delocalized antenna of the Faculty of Law, Economic scenes and Letters of Rheims (1991) and the opening of a department of I.U.T with Châlons-in-Champagne (1993) affirm from now on the regional rooting of a university which became, in 1982, the Université of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne.

- 1609 Aggregation of the college of the Jesuits of Rheims at the University.
- 1793 Removal of the University by decree of Convention.
- 1808 Creation of a medical school and pharmacy and of a Faculty of Arts (removed in 1815).
- 1956/1957 Creation in Rheims of the “University of sciences” like component of the University of Paris.
- 1958 Establishment of a “University center” associated with the University with Nancy (thus dependant on it).
- 1959 Creation of the Faculty of Science of Rheims (effective opening in 1961).
- 1961 Creation of the Academy of Rheims.
- 1963 Installation of the Faculty of Science to the campus of the Mill of Housse.
Creation of a “Center of higher learning of letters”. - 1964 Transformation of this center of studies into “university literary College” (attached to the Faculty of Arts of Nancy).
- 1966 Creation of the “university College of right and economic scenes”.
- 1967 legal Birth, on January 1st, of the University of Rheims, placed under the authority of the Vice-chancellor of the Academy.
- 1968 Creation of the economic scene and Faculty of Law.
- 1969 Pursuant to the law of 1968, faculties become “UER” (Units of teaching and research).
- 1970 Creation in Rheims of the “National school of dental surgery”, transformed the same year into UER of odontology.
- 1971 Scission of the mixed Faculty of medicine and pharmacy in a UER of medicine and a UER of pharmacy.
- 1973 the IUT of Troyes becomes a IUT with whole share.
- 1982 the University of Rheims changes name: it becomes “University of Rheims Champagne-Ardenne”, to mark its regional rooting.
- 1984 Law of January 26th on higher education (law “Savary”). The “UER” are transformed into “UFR” (Units of formation and research).
- 1985 Scission of the UER of economic right and science in a UFR of right and political science and a UFR of economic scenes and management.
- 1986 Entry pursuant to the law Savary.
- 1989 Creation of ESIEC.
- 1990 Creation of the University Antenna of Troyes attached to the UFR of letters, right and economic scenes of Rheims.
- 1994 Creation of the first department of the IUT of Rheims to Châlons-sur-Marne.
- 1995 Creation of a department of the IUT of Rheims to Charleville-Mézières.
- 1996 Creation of the IPAG of Rheims.
- 1998 Creation of UFR STAPS.
- 1999 Celebration of the 450e birthday of the University.
- 2006 Creation of a new die of Social sciences and name change of a UFR becoming UFR of the Economic scenes, Social and of Management.
The current president of the University is Richard Vistelle (election in 2007).
