University of Orleans

The university campus is located at Orleans-the-Source, ten kilometers in the south of the downtown area of Orleans. It is served by 3 stops of the line has Tramway of Orleans: University-Castle, Floral University-Park, University-The Indian.

History

As of 1235, the town of Orleans was authorized by the pope Gregoire IX to teach the Roman law. The university was created on January 27th 1306 by the pope Clément V, becoming thus the fourth French university after those of Paris, Toulouse and Montpellier. It is especially known for its teaching of the civil law. It undergoes a strong decline at the XVIIIe century before being removed by Convention in 1793.

Located initially around collegial the Saint-Pierre-the-Puellier, it is installed, at the time of its recasting in 1960, with Orleans-the-Source with ten kilometers in the south of the the Loire, on a field of almost 400 hectares.

The university of Orleans gradually includes a Faculty of Science (1961), right (1968), letter (1969) of sport (1992), Academic institute of Technology in Orleans (1967), Bourges (1968), Chateauroux (1992), Chartres (1996), a university of the spare time (1977) and two schools of engineers (ESEM in 1982 and ESPEO in 1992), who amalgamate in 2003 to form the Polytechnic school of Orleans (Polytech' Orleans).

Others

It also includes/understands several laboratory of CNRS as well as a school of engineers, Polytech' Orleans.

In 2008, will be attached there the Academic institute of training of the Masters.
