University of Nimes

The University of Nimes (France), in the past University center of formation and search for Nimes also called LINKED is an independent university public corporation since May 7th, 2007. It is undoubtedly a question of the last French University to be created, in order to avoid the parcelling out of higher education. The university of Nimes exists however since ten year, but it was placed under the supervision of Montpellier, and was thus regarded only as one university antenna.

It should be noted that two of the poles of university formation of Nimes do not depend on the university of Nimes. IUT is attached to the Université Montpellier 2, the site nimois of UFR of Medicine is attached to the Université Montpellier 1.

Panorama

The university of Nimes gathers approximately 4.000 student (returned 2006). It east distributes on 3 different sites:

the site Vauban located on an old strong history built by Vauban. ( Street of Doctor Georges Salan ). On this site the poles of teaching and research following are gathered:

Art S
Right, Economy and AES
Letters (with a section History) and Language S
Psychology (Master 2 professional mention environmental Psychology: appraise, council, intervention)

the site of the Carmelite friars located in the middle of the city in a historical building ( Perished Gabriel Place ). On this site the poles of teaching and research following are gathered:

biological
Physical sciences and chemical Sciences
Mathematical and Data-processing

site GI located in the middle of the scientific park Georges Besse, in the south of Nimes ( street Georges Besse ). On this site are gathered the pole of teaching of physical sciences as well as research laboratories.

Recently, the site of the Carmelite friars shelters an incubator of companies of biotechnologies, Nimes being a biotechnological pole in full expansion, in particular thanks to the technological park George Besse (currently in the course of enlarging)

Administration

The university of Nimes is managed by a council of university composed representatives elected of teachers, students and personnel IATOS. Are also represented external personalities (Universities montpelliéraines, Ville of Nimes, Département, Région, CROUS…). It is also helped by a Conseil orientation which fixes the orientations and the policy of research.

The leadership team is in the following way made up:
