University of Neuchâtel
The university of Neuchâtel account five faculties and more than one ten institutes: Letters and social sciences, sciences, right, economic scenes and theology, with 3.595 students (1987 women and 1608 men) for the academic year 2005-06 .
With its 1.500 students , the Faculty of Arts and social sciences are largest of five faculties which constitute the university of Neuchâtel. The students are framed by nearly forty ordinary and extraordinary professors, an about sixty associated professors, part-time lecturer and responsible for teaching, like by approximately 70 collaborators of teaching and research (Masters assistants, readers, assistants, etc).
The Faculty of Science of the university of Neuchâtel counts 900 students .
History
The University of Neuchâtel took the place of the Académie, created in 1838 by the king Frederic-Guillaume IV of Prussia, prince de Neuchâtel. It decreed arts degrees and science. In 1848, the Grand the Council issued closing of the Academy and in 1866 a news " Académie" was inaugurated. It counted faculties of university level: Letters, Sciences, Right then later Theology. The Academy became Université in 1909. The economic scenes were added thereafter.In 2004, Alfred Strohmeier is named vice-chancellor and begins at once many reforms among which removal of the pulpits of Italian and Greek. He is laid off by the Conseil of State in February 2007 for difference in opinion and lack of dialog and replaced by Jean-Pierre Derendinger, then senior of the Faculty of Science, which are named vice-chancellor AD interim , with the contempt of the Law on the University .
