University of Freiburg-in-Brisgau
The Université of Freiburg-in-Brisgau (in German, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg ) is a German university, located at Freiburg-in-Brisgau, in the Pays of Bade, founded at the 15th century. Until the beginning of the 19th century, one knew it under the name of university Albertina , Latinization of the first name of his founder, the archduke Albert VI of Austria. In 1820, the name of the Albertina university was supplemented by the name of the large duke Louis de Bade, considered as second founder of the university, which became the university Albert-Ludwig .
History
The university Albert-Ludwigs of Freiburg-in-Brisgau, rested by the archduke Albert VI of Austria the September 21st 1457, was the second university Habsbourg eoise after that of Vienna and became the great intellectual center of the Austria. It accepted its first students the April 26th 1460. The courses began in four traditional faculties for the medieval time : Theology, Right, Medicine and Philosophy. There were 215 inscriptions the first year, and the scholar hébraïsant Johannes Reuchlin studied the trivium there. Its zone of radiation was limited to the south-west of Germany, with the Alsace, the Suisse and the Austria.
During its stay in Freiburg, of April 1529 at July 1535, Érasme had intense contacts with the university without to teach itself there. It is for this period that the university condemns, in a report/ratio published the February 20th 1530, the doctrines of Luther.
At the 17th century a material change in teaching at the university of Freiburg occurred. The November 16th 1620, the Jésuite S entirely took charges with them the Faculty of Arts and social sciences and partly faculty with theology.
Of 1677 with 1698, during the French Occupation of the city, the university was divided into two parts: the French part from the university remained in Freiburg, whereas the Austrian part is established with Constance and returned only in 1698.
The October 12th 1791, Johann Georg Jacobi is elected vice-chancellor, becoming the first Protestant vice-chancellor of the university.
In 1832, the university had to close its doors the September 6th because of the agitation which preceded the revolution by 1832 . It reopened them the September 23rd after a reorganization allowing the resumption of the studies under better conditions.
Until 1900, the inscription at the university was reserved to the boys! It is only the February 28th 1900 which place had the first inscription of a coed and which the university allowed the introduction of the studies for women Freiburg. It was besides, in this field, a pionnière in Germany.
October 15th, 1910 was founded the faculty of Mathématiques and the Sciences.
The following year was inaugurated the new principal building, built to face the development of the university, which had just accommodated sound: 3000e student. During the First World War, the institute of anatomy was seriously damaged during an air raid on the city, on April 14th, 1917.
May 1st 1933, Martin Heidegger becomes vice-chancellor of the university Albert-Ludwigs, and is constrained to implement the dismissal of the professors Juif S in consequence of the law on the “ reintroduction of the body of the fonctionnaires ”, adopted by the mode Nazi a few months after his come to power.
The July 10th 1934, a fire devastation the principal building of the university, which will be elevated during the rebuilding. The release of the Second world war involves the closing of the university as of on September 1st, 1939, because of its frontier proximity with the France. It will reopen them only on January 8th, 1940. The university will have to again close following the bombardment of November 27th, 1944, which destroyed many buildings, in particular those of the institutes of sciences. It will be necessary to await following back to university, after the end of the conflict, so that the university can, under still precarious conditions, to reopen its doors (September 17th, 1945).
The April 29th 1957, the university Albert-Ludwigs celebrated his 500e birthday by posing the first stone of the building II, which opened in 1961, to make it possible to face the increase in the number of the students. Indeed, a few days after the inauguration, it recorded the inscription of sound: 10000e student.
