The Université of Chicago (in English, The University off Chicago ) is a private Université American, located in the district of Hyde Park, with Chicago. It was founded in 1890 by John D. Rockefeller and began its first course on October 1st, 1892. It was one of the first American universities designed like combination of the American formula of the university of the liberal arts and the German formula of the university of research.

It is classified 10th in the world classification of the universities established by the Université Jiao Tong of Shanghai.

Affiliated with 80 prizes winner of the Nobel Prize, the University of Chicago is usually looked like one of the most excellent institutions of research of the world. Historically, the university is noted for its single program of central studies and other innovations initiated by Robert Maynard Hutchins in the Thirties (including the academic calendar based on the " quarter"), and for influential academic movements like the " Chicago Schools" in economy, in sociology and literary criticism, and for the movement of law and economy in the legal analysis.

It was the site of the nuclear first Reaction controlled, carried out on December 2nd, 1942 under the direction of Enrico Fermi.

In the field Sport yew, the Chicago Maroons defend the colors of the University of Chicago.

October 23rd, 2006, The University off Chicago Graduate School off Business is number 1 with the classification of the best business schools carried out by the magazine Business Week.
