University of Bordeaux

History

The Université of Bordeaux finds its origin in a bubble of the pope Eugene IV of June 7th, 1441. The initiative of this creation must be allotted to the Archevêque Pey Berland. The university then counted four faculties, those of arts, medicine, right and theology.

This university was removed in 1793, it included/understood five faculties then: Theology, Canon law, Civil law, Medicine and Article.

The University of Bordeaux was refondée by the law of July 10th, 1896.

After the events of May 68, the university was divided between Bordeaux-I (sciences, right, social sciences and policies, economic scenes and of management), Bordeaux-II (medicine, pharmacy) and Bordeaux-III (letters).

In 1995, the universities Bordeaux-I and Bordeaux-Iv were created after the partition of the old university of Bordeaux-I.

In 2001, creation of the university pole of Bordeaux (statute of GIP), which evolves/moves in 2007 in Pôle of research and higher education named Université of Bordeaux (statute of EPCS). It gathers the university of Bordeaux, ENITA, ENSEIRB, ENSCPB and Sciences Po Bordeaux.
