University of Bonn

The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität is the complete name of the Rhenish Université of Bonn (Germany). It is one of largest and prestigious universities of the country. Its current vice-chancellor is Matthias Winiger. In the six-month period of summer 2005, the University counted approximately 30.000 students including 5.000 foreigners. It is the first employer of the city.

History

The university of Bonn was founded the October 18th 1818 by King Frederic-Guillaume III of Prussia. The October 18th 1944, a bomb damages the principal building very seriously (old Kurfürstliches Schloss, castle of the Prince-Voters of Cologne).
