CHUV (university hospital Of Vaud) is the main thing Hôpital of Lausanne, in Suisse.
It is not only one hospital of proximity for the town of Lausanne, but also the hospital of reference for the remainder of the Canton of Vaud and, with the University hospitals of Geneva, for the French-speaking Switzerland .
It is attached to the faculty of biology and medicine of the Université of Lausanne, which does of it one of the 5 university hospitals of Switzerland (with Basle, Bern, Geneva and Zurich).
With: 7500 collaborators, the CHUV constitutes more the large company of the canton of Vaud.
The first cantonal hospital of Vaud is born in 1883, with the place known as of the Champ of the Air, with the street of Bugnon, Lausanne. It counted 470 beds. The care was lavished by deaconesses of the Institution of St-Wolf.
It becomes university hospital in 1890, with the inauguration of the medical college of Lausanne.
Little by little, the cantonal hospital is increased. In 1916 maternity and the infantile private clinic are inaugurated, in 1932 the Hôpital Sandoz, in 1933 the Pavillon Le Bourget, in 1935 the Hôpital Nestlé, in 1942 the institute of pathological anatomy and in 1947 the surgical house.
Despite everything, the lack of place is gradually felt and in 1971 work of the new building of the hospital city, renamed starts University hospital of Vaud (CHUV) in 1975. The new hospital building is inaugurated in 1982. It counts then approximately: 1200 beds. In 2000, it engaged 550 doctors and: 1540 male nurses (- eras). : 41080 patients were hospitalized with the CHUV this year.
The old cantonal hospital always forms part of the site and currently accommodates the offices of the faculty of biology and medicine, the service of nephrology and the medical computing.
