Objectives

The HAD GIM trains high-level techniciens in 2 years (or more rarely 3ans) in the field of industry. Its aiming is more professional than the University but more general practitioner that a BTS. It is one of the most eclectic formations suggested in IUT.

Admission

The admission in IUT GIM is generally done on file. The majority of the institutes require to have a Vat S or STI to arise.

Course of the formation

The formation is directed towards industry with in particular propped training courses, projects, and bonds with the companies. Part of the courses is also very theoretical but the advantage is to have only little course in amphitheater. Indeed, the students often work into small groups (12 pupils approximately), which facilitates the assimilation of knowledge. The acquisition of the diploma is done in continuous assessment, without final examination, with a system of Semestrialisation. To summarize the contents of the formation (and although this vision is a little too simplifying), one can present HAD it GIM as a compromise between HAD GEII (more directed towards the electric field) and GMP (more directed towards the mechanical field).

Contents of teaching

The lesson is divided into 4 poles, called Unités of Teaching (EU):
  • UE1: Gather all the general matters such as English, mathematics, the techniques of expression, data processing (office automation),…
  • UE2: Relate to the fields of electricity, electronics, the automatisms,…
  • UE3: The pole mechanics-thermics, one studies there thermodynamics, mechanics, the resistance of materials, CAD and CAD,…
  • UE4: In-company training and the propped project. This EU appears only in 2nd year.

Outlets

The outlets are multiple so much the formation is general practitioner. The graduates of HAD GIM profit from rate of very high employment, with a fast insertion after obtaining the diploma and little precarious employment (many TDCI). The wages are about 1500€ per month at the beginning of career.

Continuations of studies

Nearly 70% of the graduates their studies continue. The majority go in professional license. Others choose a general License to continue their studies in university towards a Master. The best students can postulate in schools of engineers who recruit more and more among HAD to bring an approach different from that of the students of prépa, sometimes considered to be too theoretical.
