University Toulouse II

The university Toulouse II , known under the name of university of Toulouse it Mirail , is one of the three Université S of the town of Toulouse.

History

The buildings of the university were designed and built by the team of architects Candilis, Josic, Woods. Georges Candilis had added it on request to the great project of architecture of Toulouse of the Années 1960: the Mirail.

The university of Mirail knows a birth precipitated following the saturation of the old faculty of the center town and of course with the movement of May 1968. It on this date is decided to divide the Université of Toulouse into three: the Faculty of Law becomes the Université of Toulouse I and takes again the old buildings of the university, the faculty of letters becomes the university of Toulouse-II, called Mirail after its removal, and the medical colleges and of sciences become the university Toulouse III, said Paul Sabatier. In 1969 the fourth Toulouse university is created, the Institut National Polytechnique of Toulouse, federation of schools of engineers. After several openings of appendices (including one located in a military barracks!) in order to unchoke the university of the center town, the university of Mirail gradually opens its doors as of 1971 and in 1973, the removal is almost carried out entirely. Planned for 11.000 students, the university is victim of its success today, since it accommodates 23 800 students approximately.

The great fields of the university are “Arts, Lettres and Languages”, “Social sciences”, “Sciences, Technologie, Santé”.
