University Paris XI

The university Paris-XI , or university Paris-South is a French university created on January 1st, 1971 and located on the departments of the the Essonne, the Hauts-de-Seine and the the Valley-of-Marne. It comprises 127 research laboratories, 5 UFR, 3 IUT, and a department of training of the engineers. It is chaired by professor Anita Bersellini.

The university comprises several poles, distributed on the following communes: Antony, Bore-hole-on-Yvette, Cachan, Châtenay-Malabry, Gif-sur-Yvette, the Kremlin-Bicêtre, Orsay, Plessis-Robinson, Seals.

Teaching

UFR of sciences

Located completely on the University campus of Orsay, the UFR sciences accommodates the trainings in mathematics, data processing, physics, chemistry, biology, sciences of the ground and the universe. Created on proposal of Frederic Joliot in March 1955, like extension of the Faculty of Science of Paris, in a superb field, seized on an owner implied in collaboration, it celebrated in 2005 its fiftieth anniversary and of many demonstrations commemorated the event.

The UFR right-economy-management

Jean-Monnet faculty created in 1968 is strong of more than 5000 students divided out of two sites (Sceaux and Orsay). Jean-Pierre Faugère is the current senior. Faculty proposes several masters and 39 specialities in right, economy and management. It gathers seven research centres on the site of Sceaux.

The UFR of pharmacy

It accommodates 3000 students with Châtenay-Malabry. The senior of this faculty is Mr. Dominique Porquet.

The Numerus clausus of the contest of first year is in continuous increase these last years.

Here stats of year 2005/2006 Numerus Clausus 264 Many registered voters: 750 Number of taken: 285 That is to say 38%

One forms in this faculty of the pharmacists of the dies dispensary, industry and boarding school. The die industry, is rather selective.

The buildings of this faculty the are prefabricated green ones rather badly isolated thermically; on the other hand faculty is isolated enough geographically.

The University canteen of CROUS is located on the site of faculty and makes it possible to eat for a modest sum; there is also a Cafétéria.

The UFR of medicine

The medical college is located at the the Kremlin-Bicêtre and in the the Valley-of-Marne, but the first year proceeds on the campus of Orsay. It counts 3400 students including approximately 500 first-year students and 500 students of the second at the sixth year; other registered students being essentially interns in third cycle.

Strong of 1400 students, this UFR undertakes research on human motricity.

The Training institute of engineers of Paris-south (IFIPS)

250 students follow a training of engineer, in the fields of data processing, of optronic, materials and industrial electronics, mainly on the site of the plate of Moulon.

IUT of Orsay (the Essonne)

It gathers 3 departments:

  • Department of chemistry
  • Department of data processing (double department, accessible in first year 240 students). The Informatique department of the IUT of Orsay prepares in addition to HAD traditional in 2 years after the baccalaureat (possibility of carrying out the 2nd year per training), with HAD in 1 year (Special Year) like with two professional licenses in training: the license PER (Programming in Environment Distributed) and license SRSI (Safety of the Networks and Computing systems). Lastly, it is possible to prepare there a Diploma of University within the framework of continuing education: Programming, Databases and Networks. It is one of the departments of data processing of the most important IUT of France.
  • Department of physical measurements (double department, accessible in first year 200 students)

IUT of Seals (Hauts-de-Seine)

It accommodates 1600 students, trained with the business management, engineering of the trade and sale, and with management. It is the only one to propose an orientation International business with its students. It belongs to the 2 best IUT of France with that of Paris 5.

IUT of Cachan

It accommodates 1200 students in the fields of electronics, electrical engineering, the automatic, the industrial data processing, mechanics, robotics and the computer-integrated manufacturing.
