University Paris Vii-Denis-Diderot

The university Paris-VIi , or University Denis Diderot , is located in the first university area of France, the Île-de-France, which comprises 17 universities accommodating approximately 250.000 students.

Like many establishments of reputation, the university Paris Diderot - Paris 7 provides education for almost as many students in 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles. It is however single within the 8 Parisian universities, by its broad multidisciplinarity.

Created on January 1st 1971, Paris 7 took in 1994 the name of Denis Diderot in sign of the attachment of this character of the Lumières to multidisciplinarity. The article 1st of the statutes of the university specifies that it “has as a fundamental objective the development and the transmission of knowledge and the formation of free spirits and criticisms”.

Distribution of the students

With 2.300 teacher-researchers and researchers and 1.100 administrative staffs and techniques, Paris 7 accommodates today 27.000 students who are divided on several campuses.

  • In October 2007, it does not remain any more the lesson of applied sciences on the Campus of Jussieu, which also accommodates the students of the university Paris VI and the Institut of physique of the sphere of Paris.

  • Certains lesson takes place with Tolbiac, and others with the Institut Charles V.
  • Lastly, since January 2007, the removal of the university towards the new campus of Paris Left bank is in hand.
