University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne
The University Paris-I , or University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne , is a French university specialized in the fields of the economic scenes and management, arts and social sciences, legal sciences and policies. Its administrative centers are located in full heart of the Latin Quarter of Paris, but it has also more than one score of antennas in several other districts. Following the law of orientation of the higher education of 1968, the Université of Paris was divided into thirteen new universities, on the initiative of the academics themselves. Professors François Luchaire (right), Henri Bartoli (economy) and Helene Ahrweiler (social sciences) are at the origin of the regrouping in 1971 of part of the Faculty of Law and economic scenes (sitting close to the Pantheon) and of part of the social science and Faculty of Arts (sitting at the Sorbonne).
In addition, the world classification of the prestigious newspaper The Times illustrates the excellence of research but especially of the formation at the University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne since it obtains the classification following:
- Signal 50 of the category “Arts and Humanities”: Paris 1 classified 13th world (only French university in signal 50) in front of the universities of Brown, Chicago, etc
- Social Signal 50 of the category “Sciences”: Paris 1 classified 36e world (only French university in the signal 50 ).

The House of the economic scenes
The House of the economic scenes shelters the research teams of Paris 1 working in the field of the economy and mathematics applied. The whole of these some 300 researchers, the nine research units and a unit of services, the majority affiliated to CNRS, the diversity of the topics approached and methods used, give to this House a character unique in France. Are held there also the lesson of Masters, intended for approximately 300 students.
The center Pierre Mendès France
The center Pierre Mendès France is an appendix located at the nº 90 of the street of Tolbiac in the XIII {{E}} district. It accommodates approximately: 11000 students of first and second year of license in social sciences, economic scenes, management and in some legal disciplines.
It is about a whole of three turns unequal heights made up around a reinforced concrete core: the tower has is high of nine stages, the tower B of fifteen, and the tower C of twenty-two. The unit was built by the architects Andrault and Parat within the framework of the operation of town planning Italy 13.
The architects had to face many constraints of surface. Moreover, those were to create a center which can contain nearly 13.000 students on a triangular ground of 4.500 m ².
The site of Tolbiac was crossed by all the student movements which proceeded since 1968: in 1976, 1986, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006 (movement anti-CPE) and in 2007 (first once at the time of the election of Nicolas Sarkozy and a second against the Law on the autonomy of the universities). They are worth the nickname of “red Tolbiac to him it”. At the time of these various movements, part of the students of Tolbiac was put in strike and occupied the university for more or less long lengths of time. Various groups of extreme-left took an active share with agitation coed, in particular the Collective Autonome of Tolbiac (1976-1984) and CNT-FAU since 1993. Since the years 2000, a new trade union resulting from UNEF, the Trade union federation Coed plays a big role in the mobilization. At all events, with each student movement of national width, the university of Tolbiac is always among the first to be put in strike. This specificity of Tolbiac is explained partly by its architecture, which makes particularly easy the blocking of faculty.
