University Heights

University Heights is a district of the Bronx of New York, bordered in the west by Harlem River, in the east by Jerome Avenue, north by Kingsbridge Road and the south by Burnside Avenue. It is surrounded by the districts of Kingsbridge (in north), Fordham (in the east), South Bronx (in the south) and Inwood in the west, on the island of Manhattan.

The district draws its name from the hill where one of the campuses of the Université of New York was builds in 1894. At that time, the first street bore the name of " University Avenue" ( which occurred of the university ) and its principal crossroads was with the intersection of University Avenue and Fordham Road. In 1973, the University of New York sold the campus with the Université of the town of New York, which renamed it then Bronx Community College. However, the name of University Heights remained in the memories.
