University De Montfort
The university De Montfort (in English: De Montfort University or DMU) is one of both British universities of the town of Leicester in England. The university also counted campuses in the towns of Bedford, Luton, Lincoln, Caythorpe and Milton Keynes but only that of Leicester is used today.
History
The history of the university De Monfort goes back to 1969 with the creation of the City off Leicester Polytechnic (Institute of technology of Leicester), resulting from fusion in 1969 of the Leicester College off Technology and of the Leicester College off Art . This institute had been named according to Simon V of Montfort, 6th tale of Leicester at the 13th century. The City off Leicester Polytechnic officially became a university (known as new university) in 1992 shortly after the inauguration of the campus of Milton Keynes by the Queen Elizabeth II in 1991. The new university De Montfort then integrated the Bedford College off Higher Education and the Lincoln College in 1994 as well as the Charles Frears College off Nursing and Midwifery with Leicester in 1995 but the management of old the Lincolnshire College off Art and Design and Lincolnshire College off Agriculture , based to Lincoln and Caythorpe, was transferred to the Université from Lincoln in 2002.
The campus of Kents Hill in Milton Keynes is not used any more since 2003 because of the blows of maintenance of a so small site. It is henceforth occupied by the Open University . The last campus located out of the town of Leicester amalgamated with the Université of Luton to form the Université of Bedfordshire in 2006.
