Universal Orlando Arises

Universal Orlando Resort is the name of the " resort" of Universal to Orlando in Florida. It is a complex of leisures gathering:

History

With the beginning of the year 1980, thanks to the success of the Universal Studios Hollywood in California, the Universal company decided to open a park near the Walt Disney World Resort of Disney which attracted an important crowd (and basket) tourist.

The decision was made to buy a ground of 160 ha between the town of Orlando and the complex of Disney. A park with topic with places of turning for the studios of Universal Pictures: in fact the Universal Studios Florida opened in July 1990.

It was called at the end of the years 1990 Universal Escape Orlando then it received its current name with the opening of Islands off Adventure , a second park, in 2001 and several hotels.

In May 2004, Vivendi Universal resells its division Vivendi Universal Entertainment, including/understanding Universal Parks & Resorts, with General Electric which will associate it with its subsidiary company NBC, to become NBC Universal. The complex thus passes to the hand of a partnership between NBC Universal and the Blackstone Group.

Organization

The center of gravity of the complex is the retail park and of entertainment of Universal CityWalk, bordered by a lagoon. The lagoon separates the retail park from the two parks with topics located more at the west. A bridge in the North-West crosses the lagoon and serves the Universal Studios Florida off, while an other made in the same way in south-west for Universal' S Islands Adventure.
On the other side of the lagoon, it is possible to join the two parks without passing by again by CityWalk. This passage makes it possible to skirt the respective icons of the parks and to reach the Hard rock Coffee.

In the east of CityWalk two structures of concrete carparks are on several levels which can accommodate more than 15.000 vehicles. They are connected together by two bridges which are assembled with the top of a carpark of bus to join the north of the shopping mall beside the cinemas.

In the north and the south of this zone of the hotels were built. They form a north-eastern/south-western axis dividing the field in two (carpark in the east with the highway, and parks in the west).

Hotels

The three current hotels are built along a river-lagoon dividing the field into two. River shuttles serve each one of them as well as CityWalk.

  • the Portofino Bay Hotel is the hotel more in the North-East of the field. It opened in 1999 Juste before the second park and is managed by Loews. It takes as a starting point the city Italy of Portofino and has a marina and a center of congress.

  • the Hard rock Hotel is located between the northern carpark and the park of the studios, just in the north of CityWalk. It evokes the musical topic of the Hard rock and opened in 2002. It is next to the old Hard rock Coffee, located just at the west behind the zone of the studios dedicated to the children.

  • the Royal Pacific Resort is located between the highway and the park Islands off Adventure , just in the south of CityWalk. It evokes the tropical islands and has to him also a marina and a center of congress. It opened in 2003 but not with the site envisaged at the origin in the south-western angle of the field. It is also managed by Loews.

The current space of the field would make it possible to build three hotels equivalent to those existing and so connected by inland waterway.
