Universal Music Mobile is a License of mark resulting from a partnership between Universal Music and Bouygues Telecom launched to France the August 25th 2004. Universal proposes blocked fixed prices of mobile communications.

History

Universal Music Mobile starts again in fact a new life in France. SFR and Universal Music had already launched the mark in September 2001. At the time, Universal Music Mobile was regarded as the first Virtual mobile operator French market. As in this case with Bouygues Telecom, it was not acted in fact that of one mark, managed with 100  % by SFR. This last had then put an end to the adventure, by reinstating at his place the customers of Universal.

Offer

The privileged target of Universal remains the young people. And, consequently, Universal proposes fixed prices blocked with textos (sms) unlimited Wednesday and the weekend like all the other days of 17:00 at midnight to avoid with the parents a skid of the invoice. The fixed prices thus oscillate between 19,90 euros for 1 hour of communication and 29,90 euros for 2 hours of communication (for a 24 months engagement).

Universal Music Mobile counts today + of 1.000.000 customers in France (November 2007).

Universal Mobile is an agreement of mark such as TF1 Mobile, also lodged by the network of Bouygues Télécom. M6 Mobile, main competitor of Universal, uses as for him the Orange network. M6 and Universal have as a target the young people with blocked fixed prices, whereas TF1 targets the " young people adultes" and adults.

Strategy

By giving again life with its mark of mobile telephony, Universal Music hopes to benefit from the basket hoped, but unforeseeable, of the music on Mobile phone. Negro Pascal, president of Universal Music France, declared: “The objective, in the long term, is the remote loading of pieces on mobiles as soon as the terminals allow it. I am convinced that we are only at the beginning of the marriage between telephony and the music”.

For Bouygues Telecom, the ambition is to have a mark recognized on the very snuffed segment of the 15-20 years:

We never belonged to the stars on the segment of the blocked fixed prices, recognized Gilles Pélisson, general ex-director of Bouygues Télécom. For one énième fixed price, large distribution would not have granted specific visibility to us. With a new mark, it is different.
