The Universal Congress of Esperanto (in Esperanto: Universala Kongreso of Esperanto ) gathers around the project Esperanto of 1000 to 7000 people from approximately 40 to 60 different countries each year in a different city.
The First Universal Congress of Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1905 gathers conference, debate, exposure, cultural activity(AP) and an excursion in England. Proof is made that Esperanto used hitherto primarily in writing, functions perfectly. Zamenhof attends this first congress. Its grandson (Louis-Christophe Zaleski-Zamenhof) was present at the friendly meeting celebrated in Boulogne-sur-Mer at the time of the centenary of this event 2005.
The congresses are followed then each year safe in 1914 and during the Second world war. The congress envisaged in Paris on August 2nd 1914 was to accommodate 3.739 congressmen of 50 countries with Paris. It will not take place: the First World War bursts.
