United States National Radio operator Calm Zone

The United States National Radio operator Calm Zone (literal translation: national American Zone of radio silence ) is a vast zone surrounding the Observatoire of Green Bank.

It is a rectangle of approximately: 33000 square kilometers and is with horse on the Virginia and of the Virginia-Western . This zone was selected because of its single topography which blocks the majority of the radio waves, making it possible the observatory to be in a zone of silence.

It was defined by the Federal Communications Commission in 1958 to protect the Radiotélescope S from the observatory. The omnidirectional transmissions and/or of strong power are strongly restricted, so as to avoid saturating the amplifiers with the telescopes.

This zone protects also the antennas and the receivers from the US Navy Security Group Activity, based with Sugar Grove.
