United States Car Club

USAC , acronym of United States Auto Club is an organization which manages various championships car in the United States. It in particular organized the national championship of single-seater of 1956 to 1979.

History

The USAC was founded in 1956, when the American Automobile Association (AAA) renonça to assume the responsibility for the organization of the national championship of races of single-seater, in reaction to the drama of the 24 hours of Mans which has occurred one year earlier. The USAC also took charges the organization with it with various championships, type midget, sprint-because or stock car.

The existence of national championship USAC (also semi-officially called Field Because or IndyCar in reference to Indianapolis 500, the test queen of the season) continued without encumbers until the end of the season 1978, date on which various owners of stables and promoters of test, dissatisfied with the management of the championship, decided to create their own championship, CART (for Championship Auto Racing TEAM). In 1979, two competitor championships were thus organized, but in spite of the presence in its rows of the star A.J. Foyt as well as 500 Miles of Indianapolis, it proved quickly that the USAC had lost the battle against the CART.

From 1980, the USAC was satisfied to ensure the sporting organization the 500 Miles of Indianapolis, the integration of Indy 500 in the calendar of the CART as from 1983 coming to testify to pacifications from the relations between the two organizations.

In 1996, when Tony George, owner of Indy 500 created the Indy Racing League, it logically decided to entrust the sporting organization of it to the USAC. But following a fiasco remained famous at the time of the test of Texas in 1997 (because of an error in the counting of the turns, the USAC was mistaken in designation in the winner, causing a general brawl on arrival), Indy Racing League withdrew with the USAC the organization of the tests of its championship.

Today, the USAC does not play any more but one secondary part in the American automobile landscape compared with the powerful organizations than are Nascar, the IRL and the Field Because. But it is necessary to put at its credit the organization of several national championships for midgets and sprint-bus which constitute a fish pond of future stars. Thus let us quote championships USAC Silver Crown Series, USAC Sprint Because Series and USAC National Midget Series.
