United Nations for industrial development

The United Nations for industrial development (ONUDI) is an agency of the UNO whose mission is to help with the industrial development of its Member States.

ONUDI is created with Vienna (Austria) in 1966 and becomes an specialized agency of UNO in 1985.

History

Created by a resolution of 1966 of the general meeting as a subsidiary body, the ONUDI became, since the 1/1/86, an specialized institution of the system of the United Nations.

Objectives

The ONUDI aims to promote and accelerate industrial development in the developing countries.

Composition

The ONUDI counts 172 Member States (1), taking into account the withdrawal of the United States in 1996 and Australia in 1997.

Operation

The general conference, made up of all the Member States, meets every 2 years as an ordinary session. The council of industrial development includes/understands 53 members, elected for 4 years by the conference The managing director is named by the general conference for a 4 years mandate. its manpower are of 650 people.
