United Artists
United Artists is a company which was created the February 5th 1919 by four pioneers of Hollywood: Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and D.W. Griffith.
Their objective was to counterbalance the capacity of the large Hollywood studios which, according to them, garnered enormous benefit with their costs.
According to the councils of the businessman Gibbs McAdoo they decided to create their own distributive firm. The first director of the company was Hiram Abrams.
In 1952, United Artists was repurchased by Arthur Krim
Among films produced and distributed by United Artists, one can quote the Mark of Zorro of Fred Niblo (1920), the fantastic Ride of John Ford (1939) and the films of independent producers of the Années 1930 and 40 such as Walt Disney, Alexander Korda and David Selznick.
United Artists also distributed all films of the series James Bond and all the Rocky.
In 1981, following the financial fiasco of the Door of the paradise of Michael Cimino, United Artists was repurchased by the Subway-Goldwyn-Mayer.
In 2006, following its dismissal from Paramount Pictures, the duet Tom Cruise/Paula Wagner repurchased United Artists with the MGM.
