Unit Al-Kindî

Unit Al-Kindî is a musical formation Syrian founded in 1983 by French Julien Weiss and agent of the traditions of the Arab, crowned or profane traditional songs. History

Founded in 1983 by Julien Weiss in homage to Al-Kindi, a philosopher and theorist of the music arabo-Moslem, the musical Ensemble (Takht indicating in Arab Music, a traditional small formation of room of erudite music including/understanding Oud, Qānun, violin, Ney and Riqq) is famous for the quality of its interpretation and the rigor of its work on the musical traditions arabo-Moslem women. It carries out the repertory of the erudite Musique by revalorizing the instrumental practice, restoring a right balance often broken with the exclusive favor of the Chant. The objective of the unit is of going to the source of the sacred musics or profane, by expurgeant them their ornamentations in order to seek the original purity of the music and its direct link with Allah.

Unit Al-Kindî accommodates many prestigious soloists like Sheikh Habboush, Sabah Fakhri or Sheikh Hamza Shakkûr. The group is often accompanied by Dancing dervishes at the time of its concerts.
