Unirea

Unirea (of: Wallendorf ) is a district of the town of Bistriţa in Transylvania (Romania), as well as the name of a shopping mall with Bucharest.

History

The locality was founded towards 1150, probably by colonists come from Western Europe. The precise origin of these colonists however could not be established clearly.

In their studies, Professor Karl Kurt Klein and Doctor Ernst Wagner established that the village had been probably founded by Walloon colonists. Their arrival probably intervened within the framework of the emigration of the German Diaspora in these areas, the Walloon countries forming at that time essentially part of the Saint Germanic Roman empire.

Located at a few kilometers of the center of Bistriţa and by constituting some from now on the northern suburbs, the village was however an independent entity.
