Union of the democratic forces (France)
The Union of the democratic forces (UFD) is an electoral trust set up in 1958 by several political organizations, trade-union and associative like by many personalities to gather the left not-Communist opposed to the return of the Général de Gaulle.
All its candidates are beaten with the legislative elections of 1958, though its candidate with the presidential election, on December 21st of the same year obtained a honourable score. The senior Albert Châtelet, in the absence of a socialist candidate, indeed obtained the votes of 8,46% of the 79.416 Great Electors being expressed. But fault of having known to overcome interminable debates on its nature and its structure, the UFD disappears, much of its organizers finding itself two years later within the Socialist party unified.
